About the Ring Ching Roadshow

In 2017, Pi Beta Phi will celebrate 150 years of sisterhood. Would our 12 founders have guessed their vision lives on today through more than 200,000 Pi Phis worldwide? To celebrate our sisterhood, we’re going to spend the next two years on the road, gathering stories from coast to coast. How does Pi Phi shape our lives? How are our sisters making a difference in their communities? How are they shaping the future?

The term “Ring Ching” comes from the beloved Pi Beta Phi song “Ring, Ching, Ching.” The words were penned by Iowa Alpha Louise “Lulu” Linn Sawyers in 1888. She wrote the tune in response to a request from The Arrow magazine asking for song submissions. Today, choruses of “Ring, Ching, Ching” can be heard at Pi Phi events along with the “ching’ing” of spoons against water glasses.

The name Libbie, our car, is in honor of Pi Beta Phi Founder Libbie Brook Gaddis. Libbie was our youngest founder and established Pi Beta Phi’s second chapter at Iowa Wesleyan University. Of sincere friendship she said, “for while there are deeper and holier relations than that of Pi Beta Phi, still nothing purer or lovelier graces the name of friendship.”

Meet the Driver

California Eta Daphney Bitanga is joining Libbie on the road for the next two years! Daphney loves Pi Phi because she found amazing mentors and made lifelong friendships through our sisterhood.

Daphney grew up in Oceanside, California just north of San Diego, but she is looking forward to getting to know new sisters across the United States and Canada! Feel free to show her around when she visits your city or town. Daphney is on the lookout for your favorite campus spots, city landmarks and — of course — the best eats in town!

Daphney earned her bachelors degree in social sciences from the University of California, Irvine and a Masters of Education in postsecondary administration and student affairs from the University of Southern California. Pi Phi opened so many doors for Daphney that she knew she had to give back.
